From a father to a son, a mother to a daughter!

Updated: Nov 2, 2022

Something that happened to you can be a trauma. And something that did not happen to you can also be a trauma too.

Something that happened at the wrong time can be a trauma. And something that did not happen at the right time can be a trauma too.

Something that happened to your loved ones can be a trauma and something that did not happen to your loved ones is a trauma too.

How?

Whenever I watch movies like Bombay, and Kashmir Files which highlight the atrocities of humans, the first thought that comes to my mind is of the family. When one member of the family goes through a trauma, family can be there for them. But when the whole family is facing a trauma, how difficult it is for them to be there for each other?

When a member of the family is killed violently, another member carries the need for justice. One more member carries memories. Another member carries the guilt of not being able to do anything about it. And all these three conditions, as helpless as they sound build another kind of trauma in the living.

Trauma is not just what happened to the present family, it's what happened to the present family which led to the cycle of trauma being alive in the generations to come. The horror and the terror of violence may be out of terrorism or politics, but the repercussions are always on the humanity.

A lot of families which have been through trauma, never really get out of it because it becomes that one incident that defined their lives for ages to come. And well it is inhuman to deny that. But at the same time, it is important to change that, the trauma, as well as the reasons for violence and atrocities that happen.
